Thumb Sprint Triathlon


The swim is in the high school pool. The bike course is on lightly traveled, flat, smooth farm roads. We use the high school cross country course as well as the high school track for the 2 loop, 5k run course.  

Transition Area

The Transition Area will be located about 50’ out the pool doors in the parking lot adjacent to the pool building. It’s a quick jaunt across the grass and into the parking lot.  

Opens - 8:00am 
No friends or family members allowed in the transition area for any reason. The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at the starting area for mandatory course meeting and announcements. Once the transition area is closed, you will NOT be permitted back in before the race starts. Family/Friends will not be permitted in for any reason at any time throughout the event. 

When the last cyclist is off the course and has headed out for the run. This time is variable and we will make announcements at the event when the transition area is ready to re-open. 

Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race! This pertains to all athletes of all distances. All athletes deserve a clear transition. 

In the event of inclement weather, it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course. 

Timing Chip
When you have completed the race, please do NOT enter the transition area wearing your timing chip. PLEASE remove your chip before re-entering the transition area and exiting again. This will cause a timing error. 

You must rack according to your race number, based on the sequence numbers placed at the end of each row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racked with the seat tip on support bar. Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7 bikes on a rack. If there is not enough room for your bike on your designated rack, please see a 3D Team member and we will help. Please do not move another athletes bike or gear. 

Aid Station
Located at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement. 

Run In/Out and Bike In/Out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end.  It is your responsibility to go the right direction while racing in the transition area.

Swim: 300m Pool Swim

300m pool swim inside the Caro High School Pool area. 

This will be a serpentine style swim. One athlete at a time will start in lane 1, swim down on the right of lane 1, back on the other side of lane 1, down on the right of lane 2, back on the other side of lane 2, and so on. You may either flip turn or simply go under the lane line to get in the next lane.  

IF you need to stop and take a break, please do so at the end of each lane and be aware of swimmers behind you.  

You will be seeded based on your 300m swim time. Simply take your average in a 500m swim (you can see this pace in 3D past results), and multiply that by 3. If you do not have your average pace, just take your 100m time, multiply by 3 and add 20 seconds.  

Seeding will begin in the pool on the deck at 8:15am. You MUST seed yourself with your ACTUAL, HONEST time. Failure to do so, can result in a backup in the pool. Proper seeding creates proper flow in the pool. All athletes will be seeded in front of your fellow athletes, prior to the swim start. 

You should know your 100m swim time before the event. This is your REAL time; not the time you hope or wish you can finish in. When this is done properly, the swim goes very smoothly. We will seed you prior to the start.

Bike: 13.4mi

Taking you back to the 2015 course with less traffic out along the farm fields. Exiting the Transition Area from the main parking lot at the high school, you will head LEFT straight all the way up to a LEFT on Dutcher, to a LEFT on Graff, to a LEFT on Deckerville to a LEFT back to the school. With newly paved roads it will be fast for sure.  

Bike Course

Run: 3.1mi

5k (3.1mi) 2 loops. 

Exiting the Transition Area around and over to the track and out onto the high school cross country course, you head out to the back practice fields and then dive into the woods for a quick trail run before you pop out into the baseball fields. That brings you around to the track where you complete one loop, exit, and run along the football stadium parking area, right past the finish line and out again for lap 2. After your second lap you simply head straight down the finish chute with spectators cheering you on the whole way.

Simple for this one: this event is before the major outdoor open water season kicks off - so go out there, support a great bunch of kids and HAVE FUN!
