TRI - Kensington
The swim is in Kent lake right from the beautiful Maple Beach, the course will change from year to year based on weed growth in the area, so we will move it to keep you out of those weedy areas. So one year we may have a rectangle course, another may be a triangle. Water temps will be in the 70's.
The bike will take you on an out and back section to one of the park entrances then back around and the climb to the counties' highest point, before a super fun and fast downhill all the way back to Maple Beach. Olympic athletes will do it again, the course is tree-lined.
The run is going to be very nice out and back along the lake on the lake trail. This is a blacktopped trail that circles the lake. Taking you through forest and tree sections on one side with the lake on the other.
The Transition area will be in the parking lot of Maple Beach, closest to the beach area.
Opens - 5:30am
No friends or family members allowed in the transition area for any reason. The race director and race officials will close the transition area 30-45 minutes before race start to ensure all athletes are at the starting area for mandatory course meeting and announcements. Once the transition area is closed, you will NOT be permitted back in before the race starts. Family/Friends will not be permitted in for any reason at any time throughout the event.
When the last cyclist is off the course and has headed out for the run. This time is variable and we will make announcements at the event when the transition area is ready to re-open.
Any athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race! This pertains to all athletes of all distances. All athletes deserve a clear transition.
In the event of inclement weather, it is recommended you have warm, dry clothing outside the transition area to put on following your finish due to other athletes still being on the bike course.
When you have completed the race, please do NOT enter the transition area wearing your timing chip. PLEASE remove your chip before re-entering the transition area and exiting again. This will cause a timing error.
You must rack according to your race number, based on the sequence numbers placed at the end of each row. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes racked with the seat tip on the support bar. Please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7 bikes on a rack. If there is not enough room for your bike on your designated rack, please see a 3D Team member and we will help. Please do not move another athlete's bike or gear.
Located at the run in/out chute with water and electrolyte replacement.
Run In/Out and Bike In/Out chutes are clearly marked on the large structures at either end. It is your responsibility to go the right direction while racing in the transition area.
Swim: 200m or 500m or 1500m
Time Trial start for everyone, it is your responsibility to seed yourself appropriately athletes. The bottom line is if you are not a strong swimmer do not seed your self upfront if you do not want to get swam over, seed yourself appropriately when we are seeding.
Kent lake can get weedy at points depending on how hot our summer is of course. We will no doubt need to tweak the swim course from year to year based on this so we cannot tell you if it will be a rectangle or triangle swim course until a few weeks out from the event. Kent Lake will be in the mid to upper 70's this time of year.
Olympic Distance athletes start at 7:00 am. A time trial start off the beach. You will be seeded according to your 1500m ACTUAL swim times. Don't know? seed in back.
Sprint: 7:30 a.m. You will be seeded according to your 500m ACTUAL swim times. Don't know your time, seed at the back.
Super Bavaria: 7:50 a.m. A time trial start. You will be seeded according to your 200m ACTUAL swim times. Don't know your time, seed at the back.

This is a super fun course, really it is. The course will take you along the lake and picnic areas on a slightly rolling section to start out to one of the park entry points turning around at Martindale beach. From there you will head back around the park before "the climb" not too crazy, but for the area, it is the county's highest point. After cresting the hill you will have a super fun descent all the way back to Maple beach. 1,2 or 3 loops depending on what event you have entered.

Official Bike Course Cut Off - 10:30 a.m.
Run: 5k or 10k or 1mi.
Exiting the transition area downhill will get those legs moving towards the lake and out on the lake path. This is blacktopped paved path the circles the entire lake. The path will take you through forest sections, a few bridges before your turn around point. These will be indicated with 4' tall turnaround signs. The course is predominantly flat at the section of the park.
Aid stations: Located at every mile with iced water, lemon-lime Gatorade Endurance Formula.
OFFICIAL RUN COURSE CUT OFF OF 11:30 pm. This will NOT be a loose cut off, this will be the OFFICIAL course cut off. Any athletes still on the course will be picked up and brought to the Transition Area.
You will start with your specific swim wave. Check the information cube at the event for wave start information.
You will complete the Swim and Bike disciplines of the event. Following your Bike discipline, you will dismount your bike, cross the Bike In timing mats and place your bike back at your spot on the rack in the Transition Area. You will then proceed across the Run Out timing mats and you are done! Your finish time will be when you cross the timing mats at that point.
DO NOT re-enter the transition area through Run In/Out or Bike In/Out. This will cause a timing error.
If the event offers a finisher’s memento, please proceed to the finish area to receive the item. Tell the support crew at the finish line you were in the aquabike race and they will hand you the finishers memento.
You will keep your timing chip & strap on until all the bikes are off the course. Once we announce the transition is open, you may turn your chip & strap in at the designated collection point and retrieve your gear at that point.
The race tip here is attacking the hill, just remember what goes up must come down, those who attack the hill will do well. That does not mean take it easy the rest of the event, but hills intimidate folks and unless they are training on hills it will disrupt a race plan. My next tip is you have a fast sweeping fun downhill all the way into Maple Beach, so use this to get the legs ready to run. With a downhill into the transition area, you should be able to get off the bike right into your stride. So if you spin and get the legs prepared to get off the bike and run you will not go through that half mile to mile struggle to get the legs turning over into your stride.
