This is not your typical flat ride along with farms on a dirt road course.  This is what you have been waiting for, something to get the competitive juices flowing, incredible scenery, heart-pumping climbs, with smile ear to ear descents.   We have been running and riding back on these roads for years and thought it was time to showcase this great section of Oakland county.

Starting and finishing from the beach at Holly Recreation area you will have a climb right out of the gate to get up from the beach.  A short single track section to get you out on the roads.  If the climb does not thin out the field, this 800m section will.  Then from that point you are out on the gravel roads.  Not an abundance of homes out here as they are on several acre lots.  Pretty much the entire course is tree lined with state forest lands in several sections.  After completing either your mini loop for the short course, one loop for middle or long course two loops.  You will head back to the beach at Holly recreation via a 1200m park paved road and after all that gravel road climbing there will not be much pedaling as it is a downhill finish.  36 mile athletes simply keep on going and head back out for lap 2 obviously.

There will be one aid station placed at  Bald Eagle and Jossman which all events will hit. Water, Gatorade Endurance, Pickles, Bananas, Vaseline, and Pepsi.

Why just give the cyclists the opportunity to enjoy this awesome course.  As mentioned we have been running and riding back here for years. In fact, it is where a lot of hill work has been done to build some power in the run. So the 10k will be the “mini” loop, slightly over 10k depending on GPS.  The 11 miler will be the “short” loop and is slightly over 11 miles, depending on GPS. and the 18 miler will be the “long” loop.

Aid – refuel station will be placed on the corner of Jossman and Bald Eagle, where everyone in the race will pass once if not several times depending on what event. This will have water, Gatorade Endurance, bananas, pickles, Pepsi, and Vaseline. It will be the athlete’s responsibility to plan and prepare for hydration along the rest of the course. Limiting the entire events contact and touch points to only two. Check-in and this aid station. That is pretty good for the Covid rules for sure.

Please check out the below course for the 10k “mini” loop. The 11 and 18 mile course you can view on the bike section as well. If you click on the map menu it will break down every aspect of the course including views and topography. The entire course is tree lined and should be beautiful this time of year. It will challenge even the veteran runner. Very few homes out there with some farms as well as state land.
